Táto
rocková skupina bola založená koncom roka 1994 v Amerike. Jej zakladateľom
bol Dave Grohl, vtedy známy ako bývali bubeník Scream a neskôr aj
Nirvany. V kapele Foo Fighters sa však venoval hraniu na gitare
a spevu. Očakávalo sa, že v novej skupine nesmie chybať ani Krist
Novoselic (bass gitarista Nirvany), ALE Dave sa rozhodol inak. A síce pre
Pata Smeara (ex-Germs a štvrtý člen Nirvany pri ich poslednom turné).
Novselic si šiel teda svojou vlastnou cestou (Sweet 75), no a našu kapelku
doplnili Nate Mendel (bass gitara)
a William Goldsmith (bubeník) z bývalích Sunn day real estate.
Naživo sa skupina predstavila prvý krát
v roku 3. 3. 96 v klube Satyricon (Portland). Prvý album vydali
v júny 95 (nahral ho Dave len s nepatrnou pomocou gitaristu Grega Dulliho...za
8 dní nahrali 15 piesní). Piesne však vznikli ešte za čias Nirvany, ale Dave si
nemyslel, že sú vhodné pre túto bandu. Album sa volal Foo Fighters, rovnako ako
aj skupina (Foo fighters = označenie pilotov v druhej svetovej vojne,
ktorí údajne videli UFO).
Počas nahrávania ďalšieho albumu (the color and the shape)
odišiel zo skupiny William Goldsmith a neskôr ho nahradil Taylor Hawkins
(ten predtým koncertoval s Alanis Morissete). Tento album vyšiel
v roku 97. Nezabudnuteľné sú hlavne skladby Monkey Wrench, My Poor Brain,
ale aj tie pomalšie, ako Walking After You, či My Hero. Po Vydani TCATS zo
skupiny odišiel Pat Smear a hovorilo sa, že na vine je Dave, s ktorým
sa udajne pred odchodom pohádal o arogancii Davea. No a nahradil ho
Franz Stahl.
V roku 98 nahral Dave Grohl soundtrack k filmu Paul Schrader’s
Touch.
Tesne pred dokončením tretieho albumu There Is Nothing Left
To Lose skupinu Franz opustil a chvíľu v nej ostali len traja
členovia. Po vydaní albumu sa diskutovalo o piesňach, ako I’ll Stick
Around, kde sa spieva: I don’t owe you anything – neďakujem ti za nič, ktoré
boli údajne napadnutím Cobainovej vdovy,
Courtney Love. A aj celý zvyšok textu sa zdal byť útokom proti nej. Tento
album priniesol skupine naozaj veľkú slávu, ale aj popový image, o ktorý
nestali a to vďaka megahitu Learn To Fly. Dave sa neskôr vyjadril, že
zložit túto pieseň bola chyba. Slávna ale nebola len Learn To Fly. Celkom sa
uchytili aj Stacked Actors, Breakout, Generator, Aurora, Next Year atď.
Nového
člena si Foo’s našli ešte v 1999. Je ním Chris Shiflett a v zostave Grohl /Mendel /Hawkins/ /Shiflett hrajú FF
dodnes.
Po
albume TINLTL si dali Foo’s pauzu. Příčin bolo viacero. Snáď najväčšou bola Daveová vedľajšia činnosť v skupine
Queens of the stone age, kde sa predstavil v roli bubeníka ( možno vidieť
v ich klipe k piesni No One Knows). Ďalšou príčinou boli zdravotné
problemi Taylora Hawkinsa, ktorý sa tak trochu predávkoval antidepresívami (
Dave sa k tomu vyjadril, že Taylor je jeho najlepší priateľ, len spravil chybu,
čo sa občas stáva). Diskutovalo sa dokonca aj o rozpade kapely.
ALE Foo’s to tak ľahko nevzdali a šli ďalej.
V roku 2002 konečne dokončili štvrtý album One By One, ktorý je pre Davea
zatiaľ najlepší. Konečne si pevne stojí aj za svojími textami ( na rozdiel od
tých predchádzajúcich). A pieseň All my life sa dokonca stala najlepšou
rockovou piesňou roku 2002...najlepší hardrockový výkon (neviem kto povedal). Pieseň
Tired of you nahrali s pomocou gitaristu
Briana Mayu (samotné Queen).
V roku 2005 nahrali FF svoj piaty album In Your Honor ktorý je opäť akousi zmesou z ktorej si príde každy na svoje. Snaď najlepšia je pieseň The Best Of You.....si myslím ja.
